Third Grade Teacher at Benton Harbor Area Schools and Niles Community Schools

I’m currently employed as a 3rd Grade Global Dual Language Teacher at International Academy at Hull. I will be a teacher for Niles Community Schools in the 2019/2020 school year.

If you had a campus job or internship, how did they impact your career development?

The most rewarding part is that my class has had a great transformation in behavior and we are learning and doing a full day of lessons. My challenges are that there remain some high behavior issues and academically my class is still very low. It’s frustrating to see what they missed out on for first part of year (they had a substitute and one lesson a day) and how little time I have to teach as much as I can.

What experiences impacted the choice of your career path?

My internship showed me how to arrange my knowledge from courses into an action plan. Very practical!

What advice do you have for students looking for their career after college?

I applied for every job, even jobs I felt were not right for me. My impressions were very wrong. I recommend spending the first week after school throwing your resume out there on every website you can find. Create options for yourself.
