WMU x Grand Rapids Gold VIP Experience

This is an invitation only VIP event for current and prospective students in the following areas of study: sport management, exercise science, event management, recreation and physical and health education. RSVP's are open until February 12 or until all seats are filled.

4:30 p.m. – Check-In and Welcome from Dean Dinehart

4:50 p.m. – Keynote Speaker, Trey Conner
Chief Operating Officer of the Gold and WMU alumni
 
5:00 p.m. – Careers in Athletics Panel

5:45 p.m. – Young Leaders Scholarship Award and Raffle
You could be the lucky winner the Young Leaders Scholarship Award (see FAQ) and WMU/Grand Rapids Gold raffle items!
 
6:00 p.m. – Dinner
Mingle with WMU faculty, academic advisors and current students. 
 
7:00 p.m. – Go Gold! Grand Rapids Gold vs. Rip City Remix

The Grand Rapids Gold are the NBA affiliated team of the NBA's Denver Nuggets. The franchise plays their games in Grand Rapid's Van Andel Arena. Follow them on Instagram for exciting content leading up to the game!

FAQ's

Yes. This event is free for you and one guest if your RSVP is received by February 12.

Yes. There will be a catered dinner sponsored by the Grand Rapids Gold.

Yes. There will be a shuttle leaving from and returning to WMU's Main Campus. Please indicate your need for transportation in your RSVP to guarantee you and your guests seats on the shuttle. 

Bags/Purses: Van Andel Arena has adopted a No Bag policy, permitting no bags, backpacks or purses, other than those required for medical or parenting needs, into the venue. Small clutches no larger than 4.5" x 6.5" x 2" will be permitted. Bags in the medical/essential category will be screened by security personnel.

This $2,000 scholarship will be awarded to one lucky attendee. To be considered, students must:

  1. RSVP for and attend the event
  2. Be admitted at WMU for Fall 2025 with a major in sport management, exercise science, event management, recreation management or physical and health education. 
  3. Complete their CEHD ScholarshipUniverse application by March 14.
