Meet Maggie: Exercise science

Maggie

Well, I got injured in sports and was in physical therapy for over a year.  So I want to be the person who helps out someone else in the future and that's what brought me into that program.

I had a very close friend and a family member who has been at the Western, so I was familiar with the school. So, I thought about it for a while and explored other options but narrowed it down to Western.

Not this year, but next year. I plan on doing club soccer. Also with living in the dorms I really like participating in the activities put on by RAs. And I was looking into sororities as well.

I started talking to them  after I missed an exam because of a family emergency. Since then I've started scheduling my own meetings and just meeting with them regularly.

It's mainly handling of my schoolwork. So they would look at the calendar like and ask me if I have a plan to attack these assignments and manage my time. And if I didn't they would help. They also do little things like sending reminders and it means so much.

Also they go over my goals I set each day and then identify what I'm doing well. Then provide suggestions on how I could work on them. They just put my mind in a more positive state,  knowing that they see how hard I'm working.

I'm already in contact with one of my previous therapists and she told me to reach out to her some point like mid-next year to observe or help out. So I plan on doing that and then reaching out to one of the facilities that my cousin went to for physical therapy. I'm interested in looking at the differences in how they do things.

I would really like to do a study abroad. Some of my friends are in Spain right now and it looks so cool. I like the idea of seeing exercise science in different cultures and aspects. Going to different places can also teach me something new.
