Registrar’s Notes – September 22, 2014
Electronic Re-Authorization
October is just around the corner and with it comes the semi-annual Student Information System Re-Authorization. We are pleased to announce that the process is going electronic! No more stacks of forms to sign and return to the Registrar’s Office. On October 1, all users and their supervisors will receive an email notifying them that Re-Auth has started. Users will log into GoWMU and open the “WMU Employee Security Re-authorization Form”. In this form they will be able to check whether to keep or remove access for each system they have access to. When the user hits the “Submit” button, their supervisor will receive an email notifying them that they are done. The supervisor will log into GoWMU and open the “WMU Supervisor Security Re-authorization Form” and approve the user’s re-authorization. For supervisors with multiple employees that have accounts, they can choose to process the approvals after each employee finishes or wait until they are all ready and process them at once. Re-authorization records will be stored in Banner and can be reported on when needed. Fall Re-authorization will start on Oct 1st and run through Oct 15th. We hope this new process will make it easier for you to quickly process your re-authorization and approvals. Any questions on this new process can be directed to the Registrar’s Office.
First Work Grades
As are reminder, first work grades are due on Sunday. Reaching out to students who are having difficulty early on in the semester is an important step in improving retention. Advisors are there to offer assistance and support to students who are struggling, but they typically are not aware of what is happening in the class room. We rely on instructors reporting first work grades, midterm grades and students not attending in GoWMU as a means of identifying at risk students.
Spring 2015 Registration
The Spring 2015 schedule will be open for viewing one week from today on Monday, September 29. Spring registration begins two weeks later on October 13. That means that all Spring 2015 textbook information must be submitted in order to keep WMU in compliance with the Higher Education Opportunity Act. Detailed instructions on the textbook requisition process can be found online.
Please contact Charles Hendrix, Course Materials Manager, with any textbook questions. Charles can be reached at (269) 387-3917.
Degree Works Look Ahead Feature
The Look Ahead feature in Degree Works is a great tool for students to use as they plan their schedules for next semester. In Look Ahead, students can enter courses they are thinking of taking, select process new, and see how those courses will apply toward their degree requirements.
