Registrar’s Notes – December 1, 2014
Final Exams
As we approach the end of the Fall 2014 semester, here are some things to remember regarding final exams:
- Final exam week is scheduled for December 8 to December 12.
- All final exams must be held as scheduled in the final exam schedule which can be found on the Registrar's Office website.
- All final exams are held in the normal classroom, unless other arrangements have been made with the Registrar's Office.
- To schedule classroom space for review sessions, please e-mail the Registrar's Office at regi-roomscheduling@wmich.edu
- If any student is assigned four exams during the same day, University policy will allow the student to request that one exam to be given at the make-up time.
- In every class taught, all faculty shall give a final examination, i.e., some form of comprehensive evaluative academic exercise appropriate to the course, during the last week of the semester.
- The final evaluative exercise may be distributed before the time scheduled for the final exam provided that it is due and collected on the day the final exam has been scheduled.
Registration Overrides
If it is necessary to override a registration error when adding a student into a section on SFAREGS, please make sure you enter "YES" in the override field and not "ALL". SFAREGS will display error messages one at a time in a specific order. If you override an error using "ALL", the student will be registered into the section and the system will not alert to you to any additional registration errors that may exist. Therefore, the "ALL" option could inadvertently override a time conflict, duplicate course or level restriction; causing problems for the student down the road.
The only exception is the credit hour limit. Students attempting to register for more than 19 hours in fall and Spring, or more than 10 hours in Summer I and Summer II, will receive a "maximum hours exceeded" error message. The credit hour cap can only be increased if the student receives permission from the college advisor. The "maximum hours exceeded" error does require the use of the "ALL" override. This is the last error message to display, so you can be assured that no additional errors exist on the record.
Reverse Transfer
Western Michigan University recently added four new reverse transfer partners; Alpena Community College, Delta College, Kirtland Community College and Mid Michigan Community College. To date, WMU has signed 24 reverse transfer agreements with Michigan community colleges. Reverse Transfer allows students to receive an associate degree by combining credits completed at WMU with credits earned at the community college. More information on Reverse Transfer and a full list of our partners can be found on the Registrar's Office website.
