Spring 2016 registration

Priority registration ended last Thursday. At this point all eligible students can register for spring 2016 courses. This is a great time to begin reaching out to students who have not yet registered. A Cognos report is available to help you identify those students.  The Cognos report is titled "20.30.20 Students Registered in Prior Terms Not Registered in Future Terms" and can be found by going to the 20.00 Enrollment folder, then to 20.30 Retention. The report excludes students who have graduated, applied for graduation or have been academically dismissed.

Midterm grading

Midterm grades were due last Sunday, October 25. We had the highest number of midterm grades submitted in the last seven years. It was a 16% increase from the number of midterm grades submitted in fall 2014. Thank you to all the instructors who took the time to submit grades to help support this important retention initiative.

Holds

Not all holds on a student's account prevent registration. There are a few holds applied for internal purposes only, including employer and student payment plan holds. If you are unsure if a hold will keep a student from registering for classes, you can check the hold type validation table in Banner (STVHLDD). A check mark will be listed under the items the hold will prevent (registration, transcripts etc.).

Last day to withdraw

The last day to withdraw from a fall 2015 course is next Monday, November 9. Students can withdraw in GoWMU. If a hold exists, they may request a withdrawal in person at the Registrar's Office or in writing to registrar-info@wmich.edu using their WMU-assigned email address. Withdrawal from a course any time after November 9 will only be permitted through the hardship panel withdrawal process. An email went out to students last week reminding them of the November 9 withdraw date.

Fun facts

In the two months since going live with the preferred name policy for students, 1,116 students have established a preferred first name.
