Catalog PDF

PDF versions of the 2016-2017 catalogs are available on the Registrar's Office website under the catalog link. The PDF format was first introduced with the 2012-2013 catalogs to make it easier to search for specific content in the catalog and to allow users to print pages or sections of the catalog as needed. Don't forget, we also have a mobile version of the catalogs available that can be viewed on an Android or Apple device. They can be found on the WMU Mobile app under the Academic Button.

Holds

Not all holds on a student's account prevent registration. There are a few holds applied for internal purposes only, including employer and student payment plan holds.  If you are unsure if a hold will keep a student from registering for classes, you can check the hold type validation table in Banner (STVHLDD). A check mark will be listed under the items the hold will prevent (registration, transcripts, etc.).

Student registration permit override

It’s not too early to start thinking about Spring 2017 registration.  The SFASRPO screen in Banner allows departments to enter student permits and overrides (such a prerequisite waivers) on an individual student’s record prior to registration opening.  The permits and overrides entered on SFASRPO will allow the student to register on their own through GoWMU; saving the need to manually register them once registration opens.

Permits and overrides are student, term, and course/CRN specific.  Below are step-by-step instructions on how to enter one in Banner:

  1. SFASRPO (Enter)
  2. WIN (Tab)
  3. Enter Term – This is the term you want the waiver to be effective.
  4. Next Block – This will put your cursor in the “Permit” box.
  5. Click the down arrow under the “Permit” box to see options and select the appropriate waiver.  If you know the code for the waiver, you can enter the code in the box without clicking the down arrow.  The prerequisite (PR) waiver is the most common.
  6. Tab to the appropriate box and enter the information to identify the CRN or course you want the waiver set up for.  For a course, you will need to enter both the “Subject” and “Course Number.”
  7. Save (F10).  The “User” and “Activity Date” will automatically populate.

Since SFASRPO is term specific, the student will only be able to register in the term the waiver was entered.

Fun facts

Did you know there are 4,438 sections that have enrollment for the Fall 2016 semester?  As of last week, the largest section was MUS 1090 (Bronco Marching Band) with an enrollment of 287 students, followed by BIOS 1600 (Biological Form and Function) with an enrollment of 290 students.
