Preparing for SUM I census

SUM I census will take place Monday, May 17. In preparation, please ensure the correct instructor of record has been entered in Banner for all sections, sections on hold have been canceled or made active and all students attending have been registered so they will be counted (this includes students completing thesis and dissertation hours, independent studies, internships, seminars, etc.).

Admission confirmation deadline

While the National College Decision Deadline was May 1, WMU will continue to accept admission confirmations as students make decisions. Though this year has been anything but typical, we are pleased to share we are 85% of the way to our confirmation goal. As you speak with students still considering WMU, please encourage them to connect with their admission counselor if they have questions.

Review next steps for admitted students at wmich.edu/admissions/admittedbroncos. Please note: A confirmation in the Gold Gateway is required before a student can complete the orientation process. Once confirmed and a deposit has been paid/waived, students can then take the pre-advising survey and sign up for group advising as their first steps in orienting to WMU. Students who have chosen an alternate school/path should be advised to cancel their admission application.

Last day to drop/add SUM I courses is May 14

Students may drop and add via GoWMU until 11:59 p.m. on Friday, May 14. If students need to make adjustments after the deadline, departments can assist on Monday, May 17, until 5 p.m. Courses can be added or dropped on that day without academic or financial penalty.

After May 17, dropping a class is considered a withdrawal and will show on the academic transcript with a final grade of “W”. Classes can be withdrawn in GoWMU from May 18 to June 7. The refund schedule is listed in the calendar at the bottom of this email.

Free shredding event on May 14

To encourage proper disposal of the University’s protected information, the GLBA Committee is hosting a free document and media shredding event on May 14 from 1 to 3 p.m. near Sangren Hall (Lot 41).

Due to precautions regarding COVID-19, individuals must remain in their cars. Look for cones and an “Enter Here” sign for guidance on where to line up your vehicle. Data Guardian staff will remove your items once you get to the front of the line.

SUM I satisfactory academic progress appeals

May 15 is the deadline for students to complete a satisfactory academic progress (SAP) appeal for SUM I. See more about SAP standards and the appeal process at wmich.edu/finaid/pdf/non-year/sap.pdf.
