Online Orientation information

Online Orientation for incoming students is comprised of completing a pre-advising survey, group advising session, 1:1 advising appointment and online orientation modules. Students are also strongly encouraged to participate in virtual engagement sessions, including virtual escape rooms, student panels with Orientation Student Leaders and topic-specific interest sessions.

Additionally, students have the option to attend an in-person Orientation session during the month of June. Twelve sessions will be offered and capped at 30 students with one guest each per session. The in-person session offers the opportunity to tour campus, meet an Orientation Student Leader and begin building community at WMU. Students may access all Orientation information in the new Student Orientation Hub.

Summer 2021 virtual commencement ceremonies, fall in-person ceremony planned

Summer graduates received an email from Dr. Montgomery earlier this week confirming that virtual commencement ceremonies will take place on Saturday, June 26. As with spring graduation, we are also offering smaller, socially distanced, outdoor activities across campus on the morning of commencement day for graduates and their families.

As the prevalence of vaccination increases, the commencement committee remains optimistic about the future and will be moving forward with plans to hold an event on Saturday, Oct. 2, where all 2020-21 graduates will have the opportunity to walk across the stage at Waldo Stadium while their names are announced. Look for more information regarding the Oct. 2 event in the coming weeks.

Admissions recruitment partner spotlight

The Office of Admissions would like to recognize Gloria Johnson, event coordinator from Facilities Management, as a fantastic recruitment partner making an impact on our incoming class. Gloria serves as our contact for campus events and coordinates facilities interaction with guests for our tours and events, including services like custodial, landscaping and tour route review (clean up, etc.). As our communication liaison between the FM units and Admissions, Gloria ensures our campus presents well for our prospective student guests and families. Our team works with Gloria to plan a year in advance of events, but she also responds at a moment’s notice when needed!
