Admissions adopts Common App as exclusive application for domestic first-year students

WMU will be Common App (CA) exclusive for domestic first-year students for 2022 entry terms and beyond. Transfer and international students (as well as non-degree, second bachelor’s degree, returning and other domestic student types) will continue to submit the WMU institutional app. One application will simplify the application process for students. The Office of Admissions will also be able to return a quicker admission decision since most transcripts from students who apply via the CA are submitted by school counselors using the CA platform.

Students from all geographies, racial/ethnic and socioeconomic statuses prefer Common App.

  • About 60 to 65% of our students currently apply via the CA.
  • 64% of FAFSA filers submit the CA.
  • The vast majority of our fall 2021 admitted and confirmed students submitted the CA.

Future domestic undergraduate students can be directed to apply at wmich.edu/apply, which will house links to Common App and the WMU institutional app.

Updates from Student Financial Aid

Peak processing time

Student Financial Aid is in peak processing season and may take up to four weeks to completely review submitted documents. Students are encouraged to submit any outstanding requirements for priority consideration no later than July 21. Anything that is submitted after this date cannot be guaranteed to be processed before fall payments are due. Students should be directed to check their WMU email and GoWMU often for outstanding documents, aid offers and regular updates concerning their financial aid. Bronco Express is available to assist students and families via phone or drop-in. Virtual and phone appointments are still encouraged for students and families, although in-person appointments are also available.

Bronco Express Q-Less

The Bronco Express drop-in area will be utilizing the "Q-Less" digital reservation system to alleviate congestion in the office. This system allows students to enter themselves into a digital line and be contacted by representatives at the next available time. Please direct students to text (269) 215-4129 to get in line.
