May 1 Admissions confirmation update

The Office of Admissions would like to share details on our confirmation numbers, as of May 1 (National Decision Day): 

  • 19,962 applications, which is 127% of the STRETCH goal;
  • 16,857 admitted students, which is 125% of the STRETCH goal;
  • 2,631 active admit confirmations, which is 112% of the STRETCH goal.

Admissions will continue to accept confirmations through August 15.* Once a student confirms their admission and submits their $100 enrollment deposit, they are able to register for orientation. If you are working with incoming students, please encourage them to visit their Gold Gateway account at wmich.edu/goldgateway for a personalized list of next steps.
 
*May 1 was the deadline for first-year students admitted to WMU and Aviation Flight Science to confirm their admission for fall to enroll in the program. Transfer students planning to enroll in Aviation Flight Science for fall have until May 16 to confirm.

Updates from Student Financial Aid

SUM I satisfactory academic progress appeals

May 15 is the deadline for students to complete a satisfactory academic progress (SAP) appeal for SUM I. See more about SAP standards and the appeal process at wmich.edu/finaid/pdf/non-year/sap.pdf.

Processing times

The current processing time for paperwork, appeals, PLUS loans and alternative loans is four weeks, and our response time for email inquiries is five to seven business days. 

Last day to drop/add SUM I courses is May 16

Students may drop and add via GoWMU until 11:59 p.m. on Monday, May 16. After May 16, dropping a class is considered a withdrawal and will show on the academic transcript with a final grade of “W”. Classes can be withdrawn in GoWMU from May 17 to June 6. The refund schedule is listed in the calendar at the bottom of this email.

Preparing for SUM I census

SUM I census will take place Monday, May 16. In preparation, please ensure the correct instructor of record has been entered in Banner for all sections, sections on hold have been canceled or made active and all students attending have been registered so they will be counted (this includes students completing thesis and dissertation hours, independent studies, internships, seminars, etc.).
