Updates from EM-Tech

Last day to admit a student for Spring 2024

The last day to admit a student for the spring semester is Monday, Jan. 8, by 4 p.m. This will allow applications to be interfaced with Banner and the student enough time to receive their Bronco NetID and password and register for courses before Census. We highly encourage all departments to regularly clear out their departmental review queue before leaving for the winter holiday closure. Once we return from the break, reviews should be completed daily through the deadline to provide optimal service to incoming students.

New project and product enhancement request process

We are constantly iterating on the Enrollment Management CRM. If you think of something that could improve user experiences (staff, faculty or student workers) or the experiences of prospective students, we invite you to submit your requests. Please note that requests submitted are not automatically approved; they are used to inform the roadmap and additional projects that could be taken on each academic quarter. Learn more at wmich.edu/enrollment/projects.

For issues or challenges with existing functionality, please continue to file a case (EM-Tech Support) in Enrollment Management CRM or through the publicly available support form at wmich.edu/enrollment/em-tech/crmsupport-0.

April 2024 graduation late applications due tomorrow; communication cycle for summer and fall begins next week

Please direct students interested in submitting a late application to contact Jessica Pickett. Thursday, Feb. 1, is the deadline for June, August and December 2024 graduation applications.

The Registrar's Office will begin reminding eligible students of the Feb. 1 graduation application deadline via email next week. The communication cycle will expand throughout December and January. Academic Concern Form now includes graduate students

This fall, the Graduate College, Merze Tate College and OIT worked together to expand the Academic and Holistic Wellbeing Concern Form in goWMU to include graduate students. The form allows instructors of record to submit an online form to identify when their graduate students experience any of the following issues:

 •     Earned low grades on assignments or assessments

•     Missing assignments

•     Not attending class

•     Other academic-related concerns

The form includes a space for the instructor to include separate comments for the student and the staff. Upon submission, a member of the Graduate College team will follow up with the student and offer to connect them with resources to support their graduate school experience. The Graduate College will communicate any student response back to the instructor.

As a reminder, the Student Affairs Concern Form is a separate form in goWMU that is used for behaviors such as disturbing conduct, disruptive behavior, thoughts or threats of self-harm and/or harm to others. Both of these forms are found in goWMU under Resources for Instructors and Staff.

Final exam week is Dec. 11 through 14

Regularly scheduled class meeting times are not held during exam week. View the complete exam schedule at wmich.edu/registrar/calendars-exams-fall

Digital storage project

The IT community could use your help with quantifying WMU’s digital storage needs. This project stage aims to gather as much detailed information about the current state of our existing digital storage technology and services as we can. This includes digital storage managed by IT professionals or end-users, and the strategic needs of our university constituents. The employee survey will be open through the end of December. Please help increase our respondent count by encouraging your unit's faculty and staff to participate: https://wmich.edu/bulletins/73515.

Follow-up questions can be directed to Jason Barnes or Adam Newsted.

Digital file cleanup: A note from EM-Tech

Over the years, our department has amassed a large volume of digital files which are stored on our file share server. As we move toward a new year, please take some time to purge documents which no longer hold institutional value. Where I advise everyone to be conservative in what is discarded, I request that you all take a moment to consider if retention is needed. Focusing on larger items such as large data files, PDFs, and digital media consisting of photos, movies, and audio recordings.

Please note the scope of documents to review is only those stored on a file server such as the “H”, “M”, “P” or “S” drives. File cleanup efforts do not include Salesforce, TargetX, CAS, ImageNow or other enterprise systems as all data will be retained in these applications.

Questions can be directed to Jason Barnes.
