Meet Audrey: Business education

I have always had a desire to help people learn new things, and teaching has always stood out to me. I love school and learning, and I wanted to provide that space for other high school students to also do this.

I have always wanted to be a teacher. In high school, I took a ton of business classes and that truly sparked my love for it. I had one specific teacher my junior year who truly motivated me to do better in my entrepreneurship class, and that made me realize that I could do what he does for a career. I knew something in business was my passion, but I also wanted to help people, so combining the two worked perfectly.

I want students to feel safe in my classroom and to truly love learning again. Since business classes are usually electives, the students choosing them usually want to be there. I want them to find their career paths and to also enjoy coming to my classroom every day.

I loved the community here right off the bat. When I had my first tour, I honestly didn’t even want to go to it, but I’m so glad I did. I saw they had Business Education as a major, and that’s when I knew I was going here. The atmosphere is so positive and I felt connected right away to the community. I wouldn’t change anything about my process, I felt like I immediately fit in.

I have done so many, and that’s what has made my time here so worth it. I have served as the president for the Rock Climbing Club for two years, I founded the Journaling Club, and I’ve also been apart of LeadCorp, WSA (Western Student Association), Badminton Club, WMU College Democrats, Alpha Lambda Delta, and many others.

For other activities, I’ve been an Assistant Program Manager for the Office of Student Transitions, a Fall Welcome Ambassador, and a First-Year Experience Co-Facilitator. I current work at the WMU SRC Rock Climbing Wall as well.

I try to immerse myself as much as possible in any activities available to me. I like to take advantage of the opportunities, and they have all helped me truly thrive here.

I completed a pre-internship at Portage Northern High School in Spring 2026. I went to a business classroom one day a week where I observed my mentor teacher and helped her with anything she needed. I had to observed at least 80 hours by the end of the semester.

I just finished a study abroad in Albania for two weeks. I completed a Leadership, Culture, and Social Change through the history in Albania course. I traveled throughout the whole country and learned a lot about the history. This was for my minor, Leadership for Social Change, and I would recommend a study abroad program to anyone available to take one.

Business Education at WMU

The Business Education major within the College of Education and Human Development prepares future educators to teach business subjects at the middle and high school levels. This program equips them with the pedagogical skills and content knowledge necessary to effectively deliver engaging and relevant business curricula, fostering students' understanding of finance, marketing, management, and entrepreneurship.
