College recruiter recognized with semi-annual award
KALAMAZOO, Mich.—Tayler Mercil, manager of recruitment and outreach, is the fall recipient of Western Michigan University’s College of Education and Human Development’s (CEHD) Semi-Annual Staff Recognition Award.
The award recognizes an individual’s exceptional work and outstanding contributions in support of faculty, staff, students, administrators and all those served by CEHD. Nominations are reviewed by the Dean’s Staff Advisory Committee and forwarded to the dean who selects the recipient. The honoree receives a certificate and an $800 award.
As manager of recruitment and outreach, Mercil leads daily college tours and participates in over 40 recruitment-focused events each year. One of her most notable achievements is the implementation of a new student ambassador program. The program is comprised of eight students who participate at events with Mercil and represent different CEHD programs.
"In just two short years, Tayler has demonstrated an unwavering commitment to excellence and a remarkable ability to bring about positive change," says Dr. Laura Dinehart, dean of the College of Education and Human Development. "We have seen growth in areas that we can directly attribute to efforts and initiatives Tayler has taken on. It is evident that Tayler's dedication to student success and her genuine care for their well-being have resonated with prospective students and their families."
Christy Chambers, budget analyst in CEHD, nominated Mercil and notes that she, "has been flexible with her work as coworkers have come and gone from related roles. While this is necessary and expected to some degree, Tayler seems to do it with a positive, solution focused attitude. She also seems to stay continually focused on reaching the recruitment goals of her position and supporting students in the process."
