Re-authorization

The semi-annual security re-authorization finished on October 13. Supervisors had through October 18 to approve or deny employee authorization requests. The process has started to lock accounts of users who did not complete their re-authorization by the deadline. An email will be sent to those users containing instructions on how to manually process their security re-authorization if they still need access. Accounts will be automatically deleted if re-authorizations are not processed by Thursday, November 1.

Midterm grading stats

Midterm grades were submitted in 37% of sections offered this semester. This was the highest percentage ever reported in a term. Thank you to the College of Arts and Sciences who submitted midterm grades in 51% of their sections. Thank you to all the instructors who took the time to submit grades to help support this important retention initiative.

Last day to withdraw

Today is the last day students can withdraw from a fall semester course. Students will have access to withdraw through GoWMU until 11:59 p.m. tonight. Students who are unable to access the registration system due to a hold on their account can withdraw in the Registrar's Office. If the student is not on campus, please have them contact our office at (269) 387-4300 for assistance.

After tonight, withdrawal from a course will only be permitted through the hardship panel withdrawal process of GAPDAC. Documentation will be required and the Hardship Panel will determine if a hardship exists and a withdrawal is warranted. Students initiate the hardship withdraw process through the Ombudsman's Office.

Banner 9

An upgrade to Banner is tentatively scheduled for the latter part of November.  Watch future Registrar's Notes for sneak peaks!

Pro Tip:

Banner 9 will not use Java!

Meet the Registrar's OfficeCarrie Cumming

Carrie has been with the university for 25 years and has been the registrar for the last ten. All 25 years have been in the Registrar’s Office.

When Carrie was 12 years old, she started working at her family-owned grocery store. Her first job was sorting can and bottle returns. While not that glamorous, she learned some valuable skills. She can still name the manufacturer of every soda brand and she became proficient at shooting a bottle caps across the room.

Carrie’s father attended WMU and much to his dismay, she wanted to go to Michigan State. When her high school guidance counselor forgot to send in her application, making her miss the application deadline, she came to Western with plans to transfer after the first semester. She fell in love with the school and never left . . . ever. Carrie ended up earning both her bachelor’s and master’s degrees from Western.

Carrie’s husband, brother, and daughter are all WMU graduates and her son is a sophomore in the Food Marketing program. Her daughter is in her first semester at WMU Cooley Law School in Lansing.

Carrie is an avid reader, oftentimes making suggestions to her staff of the latest novel she is reading. She also enjoys spending time with her family and going on walks with her dog, Dexter.
