Reminder: Oct. 1 is the deadline for April 2023 graduation applications

We are approaching the Oct. 1 deadline for students to apply for April 2023 graduation. Once the deadline has passed, students may submit a late application for an additional fee or apply for the next available graduation term. Please contact John Scott with questions.

Updates from the Graduate College

When students contact you and decline their admission, please email the Graduate College at with your student's name, WIN and a brief note letting us know they would like to cancel their admission. This allows us to keep student files up to date and removes them from future email communications. Remember, the Graduate College sends gentle reminder emails approximately every three weeks when a student has been admitted but is not yet registered for classes. Students will continue to get those emails if we do not cancel their admission.

Also, did you know the application is valid for one year? When communicating with your students, it may be helpful to offer them the opportunity to defer their start date from the fall 2022 semester to spring 2023, SUM I or II 2023 or fall 2023. It's a great way to serve our students and keep their admission with active status.

Note: International students may be unable to change entry term due to student visas or other immigration paperwork that could expire, so please check with International Admissions in those cases.

Admissions recruitment partner spotlight

The Office of Admissions would like to recognize Melissa Holman, director, Multicultural Affairs for Students (MAS), as a supportive and resourceful colleague. We appreciate Melissa for being a fantastic collaborator as we all make strides for Western to become a school of choice for multicultural students. Melissa has helped Office of Admissions staff brainstorm concepts for a diversity and inclusion event, connected admissions staff with MAS resources and assisted in strengthening the partnership with the Kalamazoo Promise organization. Thank you, Melissa, for your recruitment and retention efforts!

Students may withdraw from fall courses until Oct. 31

The drop/add period concluded earlier this week. Dropping a course is now considered a withdrawal and will show on transcripts with a grade of "W". Courses can be withdrawn in goWMU until Oct. 31.

Note: A 24-hour grace period is provided to students who drop a course that meets for the first time on or after the end of the drop/add period. Students dropping a course within 24 hours of the start date should be encouraged to contact the Registrar's Office to make sure they receive the correct refund.
