Semi-annual re-authorization began this week

The semi-annual security re-authorization process began Monday, Oct. 3, and concludes Friday, Oct. 14. Supervisors will have through Friday, Oct. 21, to approve or deny requests.

Security re-authorization allows the Registrar's Office to audit access to critical computer systems used at WMU and to ensure that users are familiar with the latest policies. Please direct questions to the Registrar's Office at (269) 387-4300.

Updates from Admissions

Michigan College Month

In recognition of Michigan College Month, Western Michigan University will waive the undergraduate admission application fee ($40) for domestic students during the entire month of October. This includes both the Common Application and the WMU Gold Gateway application. Please encourage any student wishing to take advantage of this waiver to get started at wmich.edu/apply.

Ways to visit with Western

The Office of Admissions is partnering with academic colleges and a number of academic support services, student organizations and campus departments to offer in-person visit experiences for prospective students. If you are working with this population, please encourage students to attend the event most convenient for them:

Fall midterm grades due Oct. 17

Grades can be entered in goWMU using the Midterm Grade Worksheet. Grades can also be reported through D2L. Additional information on midterm grading, as well as instructions on how to submit midterm grades via Elearning, can be found at wmich.edu/registrar/faculty-staff/grades.

Instructors can report students who are not performing well, have excessive absences or missing multiple assignments using the Report Student Academic Concern form located on the Faculty Menu in goWMU. When a student is reported, the information is sent to the Registrar's Office, Residence Life (if the student is living on campus) and the academic advisor of record (if the student is an undergraduate). Additionally, a comment is added to the “Notes” section in Degree Works.

Spring Orientation 2023

Spring Orientation registration is currently open for all incoming domestic beginner and transfer students. Orientation is required for all incoming students. It's a great way to assist students as they make their transition to WMU. Students and their guests will have the opportunity to hear from various presenters, take a tour, pick up their WMU ID and register for classes. Please encourage students to register via the New Student Hub.

Accelerated Graduate Degree Program (AGDP) training for WMU staff and faculty

An Accelerated Graduate Degree Program (AGDP) allows WMU students to double count up to 12 credits toward their bachelor's and master's program. The Graduate College will provide a brief overview of the AGDP procedures to help WMU staff understand the application and registration process, as well as eligibility requirements.

A training session will be offered on Thursday, Nov. 3, at 10 a.m. and Wednesday, Nov. 9, at 2 p.m. in the Graduate Commons, Walwood Hall, East Campus.

Did you know? A fun fact from the Registrar...
