WMU to offer organizational change leadership minor to enhance military leadership training
KALAMAZOO, Mich.—Military leaders looking to translate their leadership experience into organizational success now have a new opportunity to enhance their credentials. A newly designed organizational change leadership (OCL) minor at Western Michigan University allows service members and veterans with formal military leadership training to maximize transfer credits, accelerating their academic progress while deepening their expertise in organizational transformation.
This program is uniquely structured to build on the skills and experience earned through military service, equipping students with practical strategies for leading change in complex environments. By integrating core leadership principles with cutting-edge organizational change methodologies, the OCL minor empowers students to seamlessly transition their military-honed expertise into corporate, nonprofit and government roles.
“Our goal is to recognize and leverage the high-level leadership training that military professionals have already undergone,” said Kenneth Franks, military advocate, WMU Office of Military and Veterans Affairs. “This minor not only streamlines the academic journey by honoring prior learning, but it also equips them with new tools to drive meaningful change in civilian organizations.”
With a strong focus on strategic leadership, change management, and organizational effectiveness, the OCL minor offers a practical, career-focused pathway for service members seeking to advance in their careers. Whether transitioning into new industries or strengthening leadership roles within military-affiliated organizations, this program provides a powerful bridge from military leadership to civilian success.
