  Resume/Curriculum Vitae (CV)

A resume or curriculum vitae (CV) is required; please submit within the online application system.

  Graduate test

This program does not require a graduate test.

Note: International applicants may have to provide evidence of English language proficiency. More information can be found within the online application.

  Recommendations

This program requires three recommendations. References should be people familiar with your artistic abilities and who can discuss your artwork, critical and conceptual thinking capabilities, work habits, and potential for graduate study in art. References will be contacted via email with a questionnaire regarding the applicant’s qualifications for graduate study. Optional: References may also upload a reference letter. All References must be received by February 5th.

  Written statement

Submit a personal statement (1-2 pages) outlining your goals for graduate study, your motivations for pursuing an MFA, and your reasons for applying to Western Michigan University. Discuss the medium(s) you plan to study, the thematic concerns and formal qualities present in your current artwork, and the artists or theories that have influenced you. Please also address how you understand your practice within the broader field of ceramics and include your artist statement.

  Previous written work

This program does not require any previous written work be submitted.

  Other program materials

Upload 20 Images of artistic work representing at least 12 different artworks. Detail images are acceptable where necessary. Please include size and material descriptions with each image. Submit the portfolio as a single PDF. (10MB size limit)

  Transcript requirement

An official transcript from the institution from which you received your bachelor degree is required, as well as a transcript from the institution(s) where any additional graduate level courses or degrees have been taken/completed. Applicants are not required to submit an official transcript of courses taken/completed at WMU.
