Open Recreation

The Student Recreation Center at Western Michigan University is the largest activity space of all Mid-American Conference schools. It consists of 240,000 square feet of recreational space and offices for University Recreation and the Department of Human Performance and Health Education.

The Student Recreation Center strives to provide plenty of open recreation and programmable space for students, faculty, staff and members. Scheduling of open recreation spaces is done on a priority basis that has the least negative impact on the WMU population as possible.

Some areas that are reserved on a daily basis include:

Monday through Friday 8 a.m. to 3 p.m.

  • Human performance and health education classes in third floor gym, multipurpose gyms, climbing wall, aerobics studio and indoor tennis courts.

Sunday noon to 9 p.m., Monday through Thursday 6 to 10 p.m.

  • Different areas are reserved for intramural sports play depending on the current season including first and third floor courts, multipurpose gyms and indoor tennis courts.
