F45 Functional Training

Western Michigan University's Student Recreation Center is proud to be the first F45 college campus studio  in Michigan (sixth in the United States). Located in racquetball courts 1 & 2 at the Student Recreation Center, the 1,600 square foot F45 studio incorporates technology into an array of circuit-based workouts in a team environment to provide a totally immersive experience that is fun and fast.

F45 is a functional training program that incorporates a variety of fun and efficient workouts. Classes are a 45 minute high intensity, circuit training workout. There are over 30 different workouts delivered through a series of televisions mounted on the front wall. The workouts are created by F45 Training Headquarters from a database of over 3,000 different exercises. Each day of the week has a different focus and workout and is broken down as follows:

  • Mondays - Cardio resistance and core
  • Tuesdays - Resistance and core
  • Wednesdays - Cardio
  • Thursdays - Resistance and core (alternates upper and lower body each week)
  • Fridays - Resistance hybrid

How are classes structured?

The TVs that are mounted on the wall provide an organized, station-by-station diagram for the workout. This provides a visual tool for participants to move from station to station throughout the workout. Each station has a group working together and encouraging each other to successfully perform each exercise. Trained F45 instructors are in every class to help with exercise modifications, motivation and encouragement.

How can I reserve a spot in class?

Reservations spots are only available to those patrons that have purchased a F45 membership. Your spot can be reserved up to one day in advance in person at the SRC or by phone on the day of the class. Since the daily capacities vary by class, the number of reservable spots will vary. Five drop-in spots are available to current F45 members, those members that activated their membership that day, or by paying the $4 drop-in fee.

What do I do when I come for class?

All F45 class attendees must check-in at the service desk on the 2nd floor to obtain a pass. Anyone that has reserved a spot must arrive to check-in at the service desk 10 minutes prior to the start of class. Non-reserved spots are available on a walk-up basis on a first-come, first-serve basis and become available 30 minutes prior to the start of class. Once you receive your pass, you will then need to check-in at the F45 studio on the first floor to check-in to class with your Bronco card.
