Thank you for your interest in WMU’s graduate programs. We offer a comprehensive list of master’s, specialist and doctoral degrees, as well as numerous graduate certificates. Search our list of programs to find the one that is best for you.

Once you choose your program and determine your application type, please review the application requirements, including general application information for the university, the residency policy, and specific requirements for individual programs, before beginning your application.

Accelerated Graduate Degree Programs

Accelerated Graduate Degree Programs (AGDP) allow the current WMU student to apply up to 12 credits towards both their undergraduate and graduate degrees but at the undergraduate rate, saving both time and money. In the Graduate Application Portal, choose the Degree-Seeking graduate application, then choose the accelerated option to apply to an accelerated program. For example, History - MA Accelerated. See the current list of available Accelerated Graduate Degree Programs.

Deadlines

Application deadlines vary by department and not all departments admit students for all semesters or sessions. Please review the specific program requirements for details.

University requirements

An official transcript from the institution from which you earned your Bachelor degree is required, as well as transcripts from those institutions where any graduate level courses or degrees have been taken or completed. Applicants are not required to submit an official transcript of courses taken or completed at Western Michigan University. Departments may request additional course information or transcripts as necessary.

See specific program requirements for details. International applicants may be asked to provide evidence of English language proficiency.

All documents submitted become the property of Western Michigan University and cannot be returned to the applicant or released to other institutions.

Program requirements

Review the specific application requirements for your graduate program of interest. Many programs require written narrative statements, specific standardized tests, letters of recommendation and other support materials. Applicants are encouraged to print or bookmark the information while completing their application to ensure accurate completion of the application.

Submission of your application

Be prepared to pay a nonrefundable application fee online by credit card—$50 for domestic applicants and $100 for international applicants. You will not be able to submit the application without paying the application fee. Payments are processed through a secure server. Please note, programs using a Central Application Service (CAS) where you can apply to multiple schools at once may charge higher fees for this service.

Check your entries as you work; you cannot make changes after you submit the completed application. If you find an error after you’ve submitted the application, use the contact information indicated below. Do not submit a second application.

Two asian female students work together, one tutoring the other with the aid of reference books and notes, the board behind them filled with formulas. You too can engage in learning with others at Western Michigan University.

Your application will be considered complete after all official transcripts, required test scores, or required recommendations are received. Final decisions are made by the academic departments, and the length of the admission process varies by department.
