Application deadline dates for degree seeking applicants—and all graduate certificate programs—vary by department, and not all departments admit students for all semesters/sessions. Many programs require written narrative statements, specific standardized tests, letters of recommendation and other support materials.

Review the specific application requirements for each graduate program. Applicants are encouraged to print out or bookmark that information while you work through the graduate application.

The application system now allows students to submit all of the required graduate application materials into a single application—including general application information for the university, as well as specific requirements for individual programs.

Payment of your application fee
Be prepared to pay a nonrefundable application fee online by credit card—$50 for domestic applicants and $100 for international applicants. You will not be able to submit the form without paying online. Payments are processed by a secure server.
WMU may request additional documentation to verify an applicant's residency status. For more information, see residency policy.
An official transcript from the institution from which you received your Bachelor degree is required, as well as a transcript from institution(s) where any graduate level courses or degrees have been taken/completed. Applicants are not required to submit an official transcript of courses taken/completed at Western Michigan University. Departments may request additional course information/transcripts as necessary. Please check the requirements listed for your chosen program at www.wmich.edu/grad/admissions/landing.php.
Admission decision process
Your application will be considered fully complete after all official transcripts and required test scores are received. Final decisions are made by the academic departments, and the length of the admission process varies by department.
All documents submitted become the property of Western Michigan University and cannot be returned to the applicant or released to other institutions.

- Check your entries as you work; you cannot return to change entries on the form after you submit the completed application. If you find an error after you’ve submitted the application, use the contact information indicated below. Do not submit a second application.

Please note that the Jeanne Clery Disclosure of Campus Security Policy and Campus Crime Statistics Act requires availability of the annual security and fire safety compliance document to prospective students, faculty and staff. You may request a hard copy version by calling (269) 387-5555.
The report includes campus security and personal safety information as well as crime prevention, fire safety, university police law enforcement authority, crime reporting policies, disciplinary procedures and other matters related to security and safety of campus. It also includes crime reporting statistics for the previous three years concerning reported crimes that occurred on campus, in certain off-campus buildings or property owned or controlled by Western Michigan University, and on public property within or immediately adjacent to and accessible from the campus.
