English
The Department of English's programs are designed to offer a variety of approaches to the study of English. English majors at Western can study literature and language, creative writing, English education, and rhetoric and professional writing. You will gain and develop skills in analyzing texts, communicating through the written and spoken word, and in thinking critically—all important skills both in and out of the work place. You’ll work closely with our specialized faculty to hone the art of writing for your own purposes.
The College of Arts and Sciences at Western Michigan University offers several opportunities for you to get a head start on your graduate degree while enrolled as an undergraduate. Through WMU’s Accelerated Graduate Degree Program, students meeting certain criteria can enroll in up to 12 credit hours of designated 5000- and 6000-level courses for graduate credit. These designated courses may be used in completion of both the bachelor’s and master’s degree.
