The WMU Graduate Student Ambassador Program 

The Graduate Student Ambassador Program is conducting an open call for new members who are interested in promoting graduate education, gaining leadership skills, and helping current and future graduate students in the 2024-25 academic year!

  • Duties

    Graduate College Ambassadors serve as student representatives of the Western Michigan University (WMU) Graduate College and the Graduate Student Association (GSA). Ambassadors are current graduate students from each academic college at WMU who receive training to: 

    • Inform prospective graduate students about graduate programs, student life, WMU, and the Kalamazoo community 
    • Participate in recruitment activities and conduct campus tours 
    • Provide peer support to current graduate students by helping them navigate graduate school 
    • Serve on a university council or committee that shapes policy and procedures affecting graduate students
  • Eligibility Requirements
    • Domestic students may be on full assistantship; international students may be on partial assistantship (due to tax and immigration laws)
    • Completed at least one semester of study at WMU, preferably graduate level study
    • Minimum 3.0 GPA
    • Positively and professionally represent the Graduate College, GSA, and WMU
    • Excellent oral communication skills and outgoing personality
    • Open daytime schedule with 75 hours of availability per semester (fall and spring)
  • Minimum Expectations
    • Attend graduate ambassador training (one full day in August)
    • Attend monthly ambassador team meetings (fall and spring semesters)
    • Attend monthly meetings for assigned university council(s) or committee(s) (fall and spring semesters) 
    • Attend monthly GSA meetings (fall and spring semesters)
    • Participate in at least four events (e.g., recruitment events, campus visits, program open houses) per semester
    • Communicate with department and program leaders at least once per semester

    • $2,000 salary paid through a bi-weekly paycheck for the academic year (fall and spring)

    2.     Letter of support from your advisor or program director at WMU. 

    3.     Letter of application describing your qualifications, eligibility (see requirements above), and motivation for becoming an ambassador. Please tell us if you have a graduate assistantship. Identify two (or more) areas you would be interested in serving:
