Dr. Majdi Maabreth

Dr. Majdi Maabreh has always been good with computers ever since he was a young boy in his home country Jordan.
At an early age, he set goals to learn as much as he can and be one of the best in the industry. He earned a Bachelor’s in Computer Science and a Master’s in Computer Information Systems from Yarmouk University in Jordan. For his doctorate, he chose Western Michigan University because of the diversity of students and the diversity of research areas in computer science. He said he talked to Bronco alumni who encouraged him to choose WMU rather than other universities who were eager to admit him. He was also impressed that U.S. News & World Report consistently placed WMU among the nation’s top 100 public institutions.

He earned his doctorate in Computer Science in April 2018 with a perfect GPA of 4.0. Among his achievements, his dissertation is made up of six published papers. His first publication, “A Parallel Peptide Indexer and Decoy Generator for Crux Tide using OpenMP” was nominated for the Best Paper Award at the Institute of Electrical and Electronics Engineers, High Performance Computing & Simulation (HPCS) conference 2016, Austria. IEEE is the world’s largest technical professional organization. He was also the recipient of numerous IEEE conference travel grants and WMU scholarly awards.

These days, Dr. Maabreh is an assistant professor at Hashemite University in Jordan realizing his dream of teaching in his home country. The Bronco alum is now inspiring the next generation of students wanting to specialize in computing, data analysis and bioinformatics research.
Dr. Maabreh is grateful to his family for their support during his studies at WMU.
