  Written statement

The Clinical Teaching Master of Arts (MA) program is for two types of candidates:
 
1. Those who hold bachelor's degrees in education: candidates who have a bachelor's degree in elementary or secondary education who want to add an initial special education credential. 
 
2. Those who hold bachelor's degrees in any other areas:  candidates who earned a bachelor's degree in an area other than education who wish to pursue a special education teaching credential.
 
Please prepare a statement that addresses the following information, and attach it to the online application. 
 
1. Bachelor's degree in education: In 3 typed, double-spaced pages or less, address the following: 1) State the special education endorsement you are seeking: autism (ASD), emotional impairment (EI), or learning disabilities (LD); 2) Identify your professional goals, explaining why you are pursuing a master's degree in special education and the student population with whom you wish to work; and 3) Summarize any relevant teaching experience in preK-12 education and include the teaching certificates or endorsements you hold.
 
2. Bachelor's degree in other areasIn 3 typed, double-spaced pages or less, address the following: 1) State the special education endorsement you are seeking: autism (ASD), emotional impairment (EI), or learning disabilities (LD); 2) Identify your professional goals, explaining why you are pursuing master's degree in special education and the student population with whom you wish to work; and 3) Summarize any relevant professional experience in education or with children or adolescents. In this section, list your undergraduate major(s) or minor(s) or any additional professional training. Note: you do not have to have a teaching degree, but we are interested in how your previous education, work, or life experience influenced your decision to become a teacher.

  Other program materials

Supplemental Prompt:
1. Bachelor's degree in education candidates: Upload a copy of your teaching certificate.
 
2.Bachelor's degree in other areas candidates: A teaching certificate is not required. Instead, candidates are required to have completed at least 60 hours of paid or volunteer work with children or adolescents. Please provide a description of your experience(s) including the approximate hours completed, the child population served, and the name(s) and phone number(s) of your supervisors.

  Transcript requirement

An official transcript from the institution from which you received your bachelor degree is required, as well as a transcript from the institution(s) where any additional graduate level courses or degrees have been taken/completed. Applicants are not required to submit an official transcript of courses taken/completed at WMU.
