Graduate test

This program does not require the General GRE.

Note: International applicants may have to provide evidence of English language proficiency. More information can be found within the online application. Recommendations

This program requires three complete recommendations. A complete recommendation includes two components, 1) the online rating form and, 2) an uploaded recommendation letter. Choose recommenders who can speak clearly about your academic work or professional experience, such as professors, employers, or supervisors.

Within the application system, you will be prompted to include the name and email address for each reference to initiate recommendation. If a recommender encounters difficulty uploading the letter, they may email it to @email for domestic student applicants or @email for international student applicants.

Written statement

Please prepare a typed statement which covers the following information, and upload it within the online application system:

Summarize your academic and/or professional experiences in Information Technology and/or Information Security. Please make sure to indicate how these experiences make you an ideal candidate for the Information Security Graduate Certificate. You are encouraged to note any exceptional accomplishments or projects, as well as any professional certifications in this discussion. Finally, address how you see this certificate aligning with your professional goals; include your thoughts on how it may aid you in potential job positions. This statement (double-spaced and between 500 – 1500 words) should demonstrate your communication skills and writing competence.

Transcript requirement

An official transcript from the institution from which you received your bachelor degree is required, as well as a transcript from the institution(s) where any additional graduate level courses or degrees have been taken/completed. Applicants are not required to submit an official transcript of courses taken/completed at WMU.

All applicants, including WMU students, are highly encouraged to submit copies of unofficial transcripts/credit evaluations into the application system as well. Western Michigan University requires official transcripts sent directly from the issuing institution, through a third-party service, or credit evaluation company (learn more at wmich.edu/grad/apply/faq).

Additional information

This graduate certificates does not qualify for federal financial aid unless taken in conjunction with a Master's or Doctoral degree program.
