With a high demand for teachers nationwide, it’s an excellent time to start your education career! It estimated that we'll need 69 million new teachers by 2030 to meet global education goals. With over ten pathways to choose from, WMU is making it easier than ever before for students to earn their initial teacher certifications and expand their knowledge base through both traditional and fast-track programming.
 
Calling all nutritionists! Nutrition and dietetics is an allied health field that builds on the foundation of life and social sciences. At WMU, 95% of graduates who applied to postgraduate internships were accepted, which is over 37% higher than the national acceptance rate for 2016-21. While here, get involved and be a part of the community by joining the popular student organization, Student Dietetic Association!
 
Our recreation/sport management program focuses on educating students about recreation/sports and leisure leadership, program and service development, delivery, and management. At WMU, 9 out of 10 graduates of recreation/sport management were employed or continuing education within three months of graduating. While here, get involved and be a part of the community by joining the popular student organization, Sport Management Association!
 
So you want to be a physical and health educator? You have come to the right place! WMU was the first in the state to offer dual certification in physical education and health education to teach students in kindergarten through grade 12. Get even more involved with multiple teacher education related registered student organizations
 

Physical and health education at WMU

WMU's exercise science program offers three majors: clinical/pre-professional, human performance and strength and conditioning. Students benefit from hands-on experience in our exercise physiology laboratory which features an environmental chamber, metabolic carts, body composition analyzers, cycle ergometers, and an underwater weighing tank.

Anchored in knowledge of human ecological systems; human development throughout the lifespan; and features of individual, relational, and familial wellness and resilience; studies in Family Science and Human Development (FSHD) offers three majors: child development and services, family science and services, and youth and community development.
 
The fashion merchandising and design majors prepare students for careers in the dynamic, fast-paced fashion industry. Students gain knowledge about industrial processes and products and focus their studies on merchandising or design and development to achieve specific career goals. With study abroad, a program specific ever-popular student organization and more, this program is a must!
