Facilities projects slated for Waldo Library, Zhang Legacy Collections Center
KALAMAZOO, Mich.—The University Libraries has launched two facilities projects for Waldo Library and the Zhang Legacy Collections Center. While these projects may cause brief disruptions to physical collections access, the overall impact on library users is expected to be minimal.
Improving Waldo Library's second-floor stacks
We are updating the book stacks layout on the second floor to make collections easier to navigate and more accessible. In 2021, we relocated collections from two branch facilities to the second floor, resulting in tightly packed shelves. This project will enhance the overall layout and browsing experience for library users and prepare the area for future renovation projects.
The project will involve moving thousands of items, and materials may be temporarily unavailable during transit. For help accessing materials on the second floor (call numbers D – M), please contact Waldo Library’s Service Desk.
Enhancing the Zhang Legacy Collections Center
In September, we started a small renovation project in the Zhang Legacy Collections Center’s reading room. The project is expected to be completed by mid-October and will add:
- A preservation space, allowing staff to care for materials onsite rather than transporting them to Waldo Library.
- A researcher station in an adjacent staff area, offering workspace to visiting researchers while classes are using the reading room.
During construction, rare books and special collections may be unavailable for viewing to protect them from contamination. Please email the Center for details or to schedule a visit.
