Introduction to Data Analysis Using Excel

Posted by Angela Brcka for University Libraries

Are you looking to get experience with Excel for use in your projects, theses or on the job? Join Daria Orlowska, data librarian, in a live demonstration of combining, organizing and analyzing data.

During the course of this workshop, attendees will be presented with an abbreviated research question that will serve as a base for learning to navigate and use formulas in Excel, critically examining datasets for bias and limitations, and discovering how secondary data (data being used for a different purpose than was originally intended when collected, such as the data found in University Libraries lighthouse logs) can be leveraged for research projects.

This hands-on workshop will use actual datasets with step-by-step instructions that you can begin applying right away in your projects, so don't miss out!

Learning outcomes:

  • Determine your needs vs dataset needs
  • Identify Excel tools to prepare datasets for analysis
  • Employ data management best practices
  • Consider limitations around findings
