Food Sales and Distribution Policy

Registered Student Organizations (RSOs) and WMU departments may distribute non-perishable food items in all library facilities as long as it is free to library users, follows health and safety standards, and does not conflict with the operating hours of the Bookmark Café. Food sales are not allowed in library facilities, except for the Bookmark Café operated by Dining Services.

Allowed

  • Non-perishable food, preferably pre-packaged items, are allowed. This includes, but is not limited to, snack-size chips or crackers, candy bars or granola bars. 

Not allowed

  • Food that requires refrigeration or heat to maintain proper health regulation temperature is prohibited. This includes, but is not limited to, pizza, hot dogs or dairy products. 
  • Equipment used to refrigerate or heat food is prohibited. This includes, but is not limited to, freezers, hot plates, chafers, warmers or open flame.

Special requests for distributing perishable food items may be submitted to the University Libraries Office of the Dean to be evaluated on a case-by-case basis. Please call (269) 387-5201.
