Swain Education Library to remain student-centered, library space

The Swain Education Library, located in Sangren Hall, will remain a part of the University Libraries’ facilities and continue to be a student-oriented space. Swain previously offered the same services as Waldo Library—on a smaller scale—but was temporarily closed during the 2020-21 academic year due to reduced COVID-19 operations.

During the temporary closure, the University Libraries decided to consolidate collections, moving Swain’s physical materials into Waldo Library. Despite this move, the Swain facility will continue to be a space for students—one that meets new and emerging needs.

“The University Libraries is dedicated to the Swain Library continuing to be an academic, student-oriented, learning environment,” said Julie Garrison, Dean of University Libraries. “We are currently talking with academic partners across the University to determine how best to achieve this goal.”

Plans for Swain’s fall operations will be released later this summer.
