Meet our new team member: Mallory Heslinger

The University Libraries welcomed Mallory Heslinger to our team as the new Distinctive Collections Specialist at the Zhang Legacy Collections Center.

Heslinger will focus on preserving and facilitating the discovery of our distinctive collections, including the Western Michigan University Archives, regional history collections and special collections.

“I love being able to work with historical objects, help preserve them for future use, and demonstrate my enthusiasm for them to others,” says Heslinger.

Heslinger is no stranger to the University, having earned her Master of Arts in Medieval Studies from Western. She also worked with our Special Collections team as a graduate assistant, metadata developer and cataloger.

“I have always been a book lover and used the library a lot as a kid,” Heslinger notes. “Combined with my love of history, it always seemed natural to gravitate toward libraries and special collections in particular.”

With a life-long love of books and history, working with our distinctive collections is a natural fit. Heslinger experience working with students and collections at several public and academic libraries and her Master’s of Library and Information Science from Wayne State will support her work at Western.

“I’m really looking forward to learning a bunch of new things, honing the skills I already have, and getting to participate in the community here.”
