University Libraries awards three scholarships to student employees

The University Libraries awarded three scholarships to student employees for their outstanding contributions to the Libraries.  Braedon Gatz, Iskandar Kholmatov and Jithendran (Jithu) Senthilkumar have been selected to receive $1,000 scholarships to support their academic pursuits at Western.

Braedon Gatz is pursuing a bachelor’s in physical and health education and works at the Tech Lab in Waldo Library. Working in the Tech lab has helped Gatz gain valuable skills he can use in his future teaching career.

“It's great because I can use these skills to teach health in the classroom. With computers, I can educate students in health education using different tools and methods,” Gatz adds.

“This scholarship has made me worry less about money for next year. It's a big relief knowing I have some financial support.”

Iskander Kholmatov is an international student from Uzbekistan pursuing a bachelor’s in computer science. Kholmatov works at Waldo Library’s service desk, where he has gained experience working in an office setting and effectively communicating with colleagues, which will be helpful as he pursues a career in computer science after graduation.

“Receiving this scholarship has significantly impacted me,” Kholmatov says. “It has given me a greater sense of responsibility in my work, motivating me to excel. Moreover, it has relieved some financial burdens by covering many school expenses, which has been a great source of relief and support for my studies.”&

Jithendran (Jithu) Senthilkumar

Jithu Senthilkumar is an international student from India pursuing a master’s degree in engineering management. Working at Waldo Library’s service desk has helped Senthilkumar enhance his customer service and interpersonal skills. Receiving the scholarship not only helps financially but also recognizes his outstanding work.

“It boosts my confidence to excel in the work I do,” says Senthilkumar.

About the Library Student Employee Scholarship Fund

The Library Student Employee Scholarship Fund supports a competitive scholarship available to all student employees who work for the Libraries and grants up to four $1,000 awards each year.
