Ethics in Data Collection and Reuse

Posted by Angela Brcka for University Libraries

Data is everywhere, collected and used in increasingly large quantities by individuals and organizations. Those who have conducted research may be familiar with the Belmont Report, but ethical data consumption and collection should go beyond the minimums of institutional protection.

In this workshop, we will consider how concepts such as power, bias and purpose reflect on ethics within our own data experiences, and analyze presented examples. By the end of the session, participants will gain a question toolbox that they can use to critically assess data sources encountered in the future.
