About the book
"Libro de buen amor" (translated "Book of Good Love") is a 14th‑century Spanish literary work written by Juan Ruiz, the Archpriest of Hita. Blending poetry and prose, it follows the Archpriest’s humorous and often mischievous attempts at courtship while offering moral reflections on love, desire and human folly.
The book is famous for its playful tone, vivid storytelling and mix of themes, from religious devotion to satirical depictions of romantic adventures. It also includes fables, songs and allegorical tales, making it one of the most important and influential works of medieval Spanish literature.
About the Medieval Research Group
The Medieval Research Group (MRG) is a joint initiative of the Medieval Institute and the Zhang Legacy Collections Center at Western Michigan University to create opportunities for students, faculty, staff and alumni to carry out research, learn about University resources, share their work with others, and build community.
MRG Quaestio meets monthly, every second Friday at 3:00 p.m. in the Zhang Legacy Collections Center. Once a month, faculty members showcase a favorite research resource such as a facsimile, database or software provided through WMU Libraries.
