Meet our acquisitions team! In this series of blog posts, learn a little bit more about our acquisitions editors: Tyler Cloherty, Erin Sweany, and Emily Winkler.

Tyler Cloherty

With over a decade as an editor in scholarly publishing, Tyler acquires titles in medieval and Renaissance history for Medieval Institute Publications and is also proud to manage MIP's TEAMS series of classroom texts in medieval studies. As a copyeditor, Tyler's experience spans a range of scholarly genres, including popular culture, the performing arts, civil war history, literary theory and medieval literature and history. She particularly enjoys editing the work of non-native English speakers.

Tyler says that what she enjoys most about being an acquisitions editor for MIP is her relationships with our authors: "I’m always interested in medieval and early modern research, but it’s my relationships with authors that make my job special. I love seeing people at conferences year after year and catching up on personal lives as well as academic work. There’s nothing like medieval Congress friendships!" Tyler will be at the 2023 International Congress on Medieval Studies—catch her for a chat about one of our series or about publishing with us!

As an acquisitions editor, Tyler is always impressed by authors who’ve clearly done their homework, becoming familiar with MIP before approaching the press. "Projects backed by academic rigor and great writing are always wonderful," she explains, "but proposals that exhibit the author’s knowledge of MIP’s history, previous books in the series, and any gaps addressed by their proposed work are unique. As an editor, I look forward to working with an author who has an equally strong vision of the project’s details and the overall picture."

It's easy to contact Tyler or MIP to discuss a potential project. You can always email Tyler or send her a message on Twitter, or fill out our prospective projects form and one of our acquisitions editors will contact you to learn more!
