Fitness Instructor Training Frequently Asked Questions
What is the Aerobics Instructor Training program?
It is an eight-week long program that teaches individuals the guidelines for safely teaching a variety of group fitness formats while allowing hands on experience and constructive feedback from professionals within the field. Instructor training will include a one-hour classroom portion and two-hours of hands-on training weekly. Participants who successfully complete the training are given an opportunity to audition and interview for a group fitness or F45 position with University Recreation.
What can I expect from this program?
This course will cover the basics of exercise physiology and anatomy needed to format a group fitness class. Participants can expect to learn how to create an exercise routine fora group following the appropriate guidelines and safety recommendations set out by ACSM. Topics covered will include choreography, safety, strength training, cardio, choreographed dance, aqua aerobics, music selection and more. Participants will take turns leading each other in formats in a small group setting and receive their own training manual with handouts covering the information for future review.
How do I enroll in this program and what is the cost?
Payment and registration can be made at the service desk. The cost is $40.
What day and time is this program held?
Session days and times are to be determined.
What if I cannot be there for every session?
Just as with an academic course, you are expected to attend sessions in order to learn. Should you miss a session or two, you can always connect with a fellow participant to see what, you missed.
