Dance - School of Theatre and Dance
From the Richmond Center for Visual Arts, enter the Dalton Center through the breezeway to your right. The Dalton Center's first and second floor house the Irving S. Gilmore School of Music. Pass through the breezeway into the bricked floors of the Dalton Center. Locate the elevator or stairs through the Dalton Center lobby and travel to the third floor.
Upon exiting the elevator or stairs, you will find yourself in the heart of the Dance facilities of the School of Theatre and Dance. Locate room 3110, Dance Studio A.
Gwen Frostic School of Art
Welcome to the Richmond Center for Visual Arts! This building is one of two buildings that make up the Gwen Frostic School of Art. The first floor of the Richmond Center houses our three museum quality gallery spaces that are free to access and open to the public. Visiting artists, traveling shows, faculty and students exhibit in these spaces. The second floor houses administration offices, one of our lecture halls, and the cube, our student lounge. The third floor houses the Graphic Design Program.
Walk down the hallway, past the Monroe-Brown Gallery entrance. Look for the walls with the University Art Collection artwork. Pass through the doors outside, up the stairs and into South Kohrman.
This is where the majority of our studio classrooms are housed. On the first floor of South Kohrman we have Metals/Jewelry studios, Foundation Art classrooms, Art Education, Ceramics and Sculpture studios.
Students will begin their time at Frostic with Foundation Courses. This is a series of 4 studio classes that teach the elements and principles of design, and introduce you to the facilities available to you in the school.
There are three gallery spaces in the Richmond Center for Visual Arts. The Albertine Monroe-Brown Gallery, Rose Netzorg-Kerr Gallery, and the DeVries student art gallery. All galleries are staffed by Frostic School of Art students. This is an excellent option for an on-campus job where you will learn how to handle and install artwork or work with the University Art Collection. Students will have the opportunity to show in both the Monroe-Brown Gallery and the DeVries Student Art Gallery in there time here at WMU.
