CEHD Cares Day Initiatives and Events

CEHD Cares Day is a part of National Education Week. As a major producer of the next generation of educators, we are celebrating our local community and alumni who are doing great work by giving back! Below is a compiled list of all initiatives going on for Cares Day and Education Week.

  • School Supply Drive

    From November 13-17, the College of Education and Human Development will be collecting school supplies for all ten of the Kalamazoo County school districts. Drop-off hours are Monday-Friday 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. in Sangren Hall Room 2421.

  • The Great CEHD Bake-Off

    In honor of celebrating our local teachers, CEHD departments and staff will utilize the cooking lab to conduct a cookie bake-off on Monday, November 13th at 1 p.m. in the Kohrman Food Lab. Cookies will be collected in gift baskets and dropped off to local schools for teachers lounges.

  • Campus closet

    The Campus Closet

    From November 13-17, CEHD will be collecting interview ready clothing that will become a part of a new campus closet for students. Clothing may be gently worn or used. Drop-off hours are Monday-Friday 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. in Sangren Hall Room 2421. Additionally clothing will be accepted in our department locations in Korhman Hall and the SRC.

  • The Great CEHD Bake-Off

    November 13, 1-5 pm | Kohrman Hall Food Lab

    On November 13th we will host a baking competition. The competition will be divided into two shifts with two ultimate champions. If you do not wish to bake, please still feel free to join us and cheer on your favorite team. See below for team information:

  • Aspiring Teachers of Michigan – Teacher Appreciation Baskets

    November 14, 6 pm | Sangren Hall Room 4705

    Student-led, Aspiring Educators of Michigan, a registered student organization will be hosting a general meeting in which they will write thank-you gifts to their favorite educators and compile gift baskets to be sent in the mail. Community and campus educators will receive this appreciation gift from a WMU student during Cares Week.

  • First Year Experience – Build a Blanket

    November 16, 5-6:15 pm | Swain Library in Sangren Hall

    Join CEHD First Year Experience classes as they all get together and make tie blankets for local homeless shelters.

  • Bronson Hospital, Child Life Department Deliveries

    November 16 | Bronson Hospital

    Join child life students and faculty member Karin Rourke as they drop of goodies and treats to the Child Life specialists working at Bronson Hospital.
