KALAMAZOO, Mich.—The College of Education and Human Development celebrated the official naming of the Dr. Donald E. Thompson Student Services Suite in Sangren Hall on Nov. 9. The Student Services Suite houses the Office of Admissions and Advising, the Student Success Center and the Office of Teacher and Administrator Certification, as well as working closely with the Office of Clinical Experiences and the TRiO Future Educator Success Program.

The staff in these offices are known for their friendly, personalized and family-oriented approach to helping students. Commenting on the influence of this atmosphere on her experience, CEHD undergraduate student Hailey Timmerman says that “The CEHD student services office has been a huge benefactor within my college career. The key thing that stands out about the office is that it is personal. The advisors know me by name. They know my interests, my GPA, the classes I have taken, what I plan to take. They know Hailey.”

In the heart of Sangren Hall, the suite serves as the go-to place to respond to the questions and concerns of CEHD students. Throughout their academic career, students are encouraged to utilize the services in the suite for information, guidance and support.

“They made me feel like I belong, I am welcomed and that I made the right decision to be a Bronco,” Timmerman notes.

During the ceremony, CEHD honored Dr. Thompson for his contributions to the college and university by naming the Student Services Suite after him. Prior to his retirement in 2014 from WMU, Dr. Thompson was a professor in the Department of Educational Leadership, Research and Technology, served as vice president for research and also had roles as dean of both the Graduate College and the College of Education and Human Development.
