We hope that you are staying healthy and safe as you prepare for your fall classes.

The University Libraries will continue to provide services and experiences that support graduate students. Like many offices on campus this fall, we will take a blended approach that provides students with access to both online and in-person services and resources. We have adjusted our operations and facilities to make your experience as safe as possible. Learn more about our safety practices and current operations.

These necessary adjustments mean that your library experience may be different than in previous years. We wanted to share information about what’s changing and the ways we will continue to support you this academic year.

What’s changing?

Evening and weekend hours will continue to be available, but we have shortened our hours significantly for security and to help WMU custodians access and clean our spaces.

We have reopened the first floor for individual study, computer use and printing. The Bookmark Café will reopen on Tuesday, Sept. 8. At this time, all other floors remain closed. This closure includes all book stacks, group study rooms, research carrels and the Graduate Student Commons.

We anticipate a gradual reopening of other spaces as conditions allow. Check our website frequently for updates and current library hours

We also have made changes to operations at our branch locations.

  • Maybee Music and Dance Library in Dalton Center will be closed permanently. The College of Fine Arts will utilize this space for other activities.
  • Swain Education Library in Sangren Hall will be closed for the 2020-21 academic year. This space will be temporarily utilized for academic support activities.
  • Zhang Legacy Collections Center will be open by appointment only for the 2020-21 academic year. Request appointments by emailing arch-collect@wmich.edu.

How we can help

We’re here to help you throughout your WMU experience. Use our online or in-person services to request materials from our collections and beyond. Connect with librarians and staff for research help, or schedule an online consultation with your subject librarian. Attend an online workshop to enhance your skills and become a more efficient researcher.

To learn more and access resources, tools, and information curated for graduate students, use this Graduate Student Library Guide.

We look forward to welcoming you back to WMU on campus or online. We’re here to support you. Please let us know how we can continue to strengthen our services in support of your academic work.
