Changing Major to Flight Science
Changing Your Current Major to Aviation Flight Science
Thank you for your interest in changing your major to aviation flight science. As part of this process, the College of Aviation will be initiating a standard practice each year to facilitate requests.
Please note, due to the competitive nature of this process, the College of Aviation will NOT guarantee each request will be honored. The number of students that will be allowed to change their major to flight science , or add flight science as a secondary major, will be determined annually after a careful review of all variables.
To be considered for adding or changing your major to flight science, carefully read the following. Any submission deviating from the process will be dismissed.
- During the end of the Fall semester, the College of Aviation will review all of the data necessary to determine the number of major changes that will be allowed for the upcoming year
- Students interested in changing their major, or adding aviation flight science as a secondary major must meet the minimum requirements as details and submit the following items:
- Minimum WMU GPA of 2.75 - this process requires a student to have completed at least one semester of full-time academic work at Western Michigan University
- Successfully completed either WMU MATH 1100 or higher, or the WMU PHYS 1070 course with a grade of "C" or better. Successful completion of MATH 1100 may be met by math placement into Math 1110
- Submit an unofficial copy of your WMU transcripts
- Submit a minimum of five bullet points on why you want to change your major to flight science, or add it as a secondary major, and why your should earn the opportunity for the limited openings
- Deadline: Submissions must be received by the end of December
- Decision Information: Mid-January - students will be emailed regarding their approval or denial

To submit the documents to be considered for a major change, please make sure to review the process and procedures for uploading your application. All documents must be converted to a .pdf format and saved utilizing the following formats:
- 2025 FMC WMU Transcript - Last Name, First Name
- 2025 FMC Bullet Points - Last Name, First Name
