The Latino Pilots Association (LPA) Scholarship Program

The Latino Pilots Association (LPA)  is pleased to announce they have $181,500 in flight training scholarships available. These scholarship opportunities, sponsored by The Boeing Company, JSX, Spirit Airlines, Delta Air Lines, Republic Airways, Piedmont Airlines, Alaska Airlines, FedEx Express, Netflix Flight Department, Net Jets, Cage Marshall Consulting, Coradine Aviation Systems, and LPA, will help break down the financial barriers that limit access to the airline pilot career path for a diverse group of recipients. The recipient will be chosen on a basis of financial need, career aspirations, dedication, and their contributions to the community in which they live and serve.

Scholarships Available:

The Boeing Company - This scholarship in the amount $20,000 will be awarded to (5) LPA members pursuing an advanced rating in their flight training. Winners will also be assigned a Boeing mentor. "Boeing’s diverse team is committed to innovating for the future, leading with sustainability, and cultivating a culture based on the company’s core values of safety, quality and integrity."

JSX - This scholarship in the amount $10,000 will be awarded to a LPA member pursuing an advanced rating in their flight training. "We remain fully committed to creating an environment for our Crewmembers and Customers that promotes diversity, equality, and inclusion."

Spirit Airlines - This scholarship in the amount $10,000 will be awarded to a LPA member pursuing an advanced rating in their flight training. "The Spirit Charitable Foundation is committed to inspiring positive change in the communities where we live and work. We invest in organizations that have a meaningful social impact on the lives of Children and Families, Service Members and the Environment, through Team Member volunteerism, monetary and in-kind donations."

Delta Air Lines - This scholarship in the amount $5,000 will be awarded to (2) LPA members pursuing an advanced rating in their flight training. "Both in the air and on the ground, we are focused on lowering our carbon footprint, furthering an equitable work environment that values diversity and inclusion and living these values in the communities where we live, work and serve."

Republic Airways - This scholarship in the amount $5,000 will be awarded to (2) LPA members pursuing an advanced rating in their flight training. "We celebrate, encourage and embrace diversity in our culture and our Republic family. We stand committed to leading conversation, education and inspiration around cultural differences and inclusion."

Piedmont Airlines - This scholarship in the amount $4,500 will be awarded to (2) LPA members pursuing an advanced rating in their flight training. "Our mission is to secure our future with a culture of caring, compliance and communication."

Alaska Airlines - This scholarship in the amount $5,000 will be awarded to a LPA member pursuing an advanced rating in their flight training. "Our Belong program initiatives encompasses our diversity, equity and inclusion commitments, as well as our efforts to enable opportunity and career development."

FedEx Express - This scholarship in the amount $5,000 will be awarded to a LPA member pursuing an advanced rating in their flight training. "To meet the needs of a diverse customer base, we reflect that diversity within our organization and celebrate it in communities around the world."

Netflix Flight Department - This scholarship in the amount $5,000 will be awarded to a LPA member pursuing an advanced rating in their flight training. Winner will also receive paid transportation, accommodations and a tour of the Netflix Aviation HQ. "We want more people and cultures to see themselves reflected on screen - so it’s important that our employees are as diverse as the communities we serve."

NetJets Inc. - This scholarship in the amount $5,000 will be awarded to a LPA member pursuing an advanced rating in their flight training. "As the leader in private aviation, NetJets leverages our passionate employees and partnerships with local and international organizations to make a positive impact both on the ground and in the air."

Cage Marshall Consulting - This scholarship in the amount $1,500 will be awarded to a LPA member pursuing their private pilot certificate or an advanced rating. This can be used towards flight training, written exam or checkride fees. "At Cage Marshall Consulting, we've been helping pilots reach their career goals since 1988...We take a vested interest in all our clients, and are dedicated to helping you achieve your dream job. Your success is our success."

Coradine Aviation Systems/Flight Schedule Pro - This scholarship in the amount $1,000 will be awarded to a LPA member pursuing their private pilot certificate or an advanced rating. This can be used towards flight training, written exam or checkride fees.  "We actively seek out ways to support diversity, equity, and inclusion. We know this is a journey, not a destination. We are committed to the journey."

LPA -  This scholarship in the amount of $5,000 will be awarded to (2) LPA members pursing their private pilot certificate or an advanced rating. "...committed in its mission to: INSPIRE, DEVELOP, and SUPPORT the Latin/a/e/o/x Aerospace and Aviation Communities; further eliminating socio-economic barriers through representation, financial support, education and mentorship."

NOTE: All LPA scholarship applicants will receive a free one year subscription to LogTen Pilot Logbook.

Application window is currently open from July 6th 2023 through July 31st 2023.

Requirements:

  • Current LPA Membership (Join at www.latinopilot.org)

  • Must be 17 years of age upon date of application.
  • Must be US Citizen or Legal Permanent Resident to apply. (LPA is unable to sponsor any visa requests). 
  • All parts of the application are required to be completed in its entirety. Any incomplete applications will be disqualified. 
  • Only submit one application per applicant. Multiple submissions of this application will cause all applications to be disqualified. 
  • Note: All scholarship funds will be distributed directly to the school. There will be no circumstances where the funds will be administered to the recipients. 
  • Private / Commercial Pilot Certificate required OR
  • Student Pilot Certificate required if applying for the Cage Marshall Consulting Scholarship, Coradine Aviation Systems/Flight Schedule Pro Scholarship or the LPA Scholarship. 
  • Scholarship Essay: (750 words max - anything over 750 words will be disqualified) - What are your aviation goals, both professional and personal?  How will this scholarship help you reach them? Be sure to include details about your financial need, and obstacles you've had to overcome to be where you are now. 
  • Current Resume - Include education, work history, honors, awards, and extra-curricular activities.
  • 1 Professional Letter of Recommendation - Can be completed by a professor, employer, teacher, or mentor. Cannot be from a family member. A professional letter of recommendation from an active LPA member is preferred.

Note: Applicants who have received a conditional letter of acceptance into the United Aviate Academy or are currently United Aviate Academy students are not eligible for the above scholarships.
