Major: Secondary Education—for students with content majors in the College of Arts and Sciences
As a Western Michigan University secondary education student that focuses on content areas in the College of Arts and Sciences, you will be certified to teach in your subject areas, both major and minor, in grades 7-12 with the exception that foreign language majors are certified to teach K-12.
WMU now follows a post-bachelor's route to Michigan secondary education teaching certification. Undergraduate students in catalog years 2020 and beyond are advised as pre-secondary education pathway students through the College of Arts and Sciences (CAS). For more information about the post-baccalaureate program model, visit the M.A. in Teaching: Secondary Education page.
Students must seek advising with both major and minor advisors in those specific academic areas.
