Description: 

Under the supervision of the Operations Manager, the Airport Operations Internship will commence in May and will consist of up to 12 weeks of professional introduction into airport operations. This is an educational position in which the applicant will be exposed to Airport Operations.  Duties include but are not limited to the following: airport operations including airfield driving privileges, customer service, data entry, various safety & administrative auditing.
Requirements

FWA Operations Department

  • Assists in safety and security inspections during construction including monitoring and escorting contractors and monitors vehicle and equipment traversing on or about the Airport Operations Area (AOA). Monitors commercial activity on the airport to ensure compliance with the commercial operating permits.
  • Assists with Airport’s Driver’s Training Program for both Movement and Non-Movement Area driving privileges. Coordinates with badge-holders to carry out the written and practical testing requirements as needed. Ensures all persons with driving privileges comply with annual recurrence training and testing. Observes drivers in the AOA for proper adherence to airfield driving procedures.
  • Assist in conducting customer service and accessibility market research, audits, and develop training material to include video.
  • Assist with digital record drawing categorization.
  • Conduct a Mock Part 139 Inspection
  • Complete frequent door audits and inspections for prohibited items at employee entrances
  • Develop an Airport Overlay District presentation that can be shared with business developers.
  • Rotating shadow of each Airport Department
  • Develop a presentation on what you enjoyed most about your internship.

Knowledge and Abilities

  • Working knowledge of FAR Part 77, 139, TSR 1542, and 150 Airport Series Advisory Circulars
  • Ability to communicate effectively with the public, airport tenants, tower personnel, and other airport personnel in person, in writing, by two way radio, or by phone.
  • Ability to respond to emergency situations in a calm and controlled manner.
  • Ability to be dependable, attentive to detail, willingness to learn, flexible and adaptable to changing priorities.
  • Ability to exercise sound judgment, make decisions with confidence, show initiative, take ownership of assigned projects, follow verbal and written instructions and communicate effectively verbally and in writing.
  • Ability to manage recurring duties with assigned projects and prioritize workload effectively.
  • Demonstrated knowledge of effective interpersonal skills.
  • Ability to develop public speaking skills for small group presentations.
  • Demonstrated knowledge in Microsoft Office software at an intermediate level.
