Richard Toups Memorial Seaplane Rating Scholarship

If you are or know a career-track pilot 16 - 25 years old we highly encourage you (them) to apply for this one-time seaplane rating scholarship being offered in memory of Richard "Dicky" Toups. Dicky was an accomplished professional pilot who began and ended his long career at Southern Seaplane in Belle Chasse, Louisiana, just outside New Orleans. Southern Seaplane is offering this scholarship in his name.

Eligibility: Applicant must be a U.S. citizen between 16 and 25 years old and actively pursuing a career as a professional pilot. Applicant must hold at least a Private pilot certificate, be a current paid SPA member, have a current FAR 61.56 Flight Review and have at least a third-class aviation medical certificate.

Application Guidelines/Checklist: 
- Front and back color copies of your pilot's certificate
- Copy of your current medical certificate
- Copy of birth certificate or U.S. passport

Application Deadline: September 20, 2019.

Announcement and Distribution of Award: Announcement of the award will be made via phone and email no later than September 30, 2019.

Scholarship Terms and Conditions: The training and check ride must be completed within 12 calendar months of the scholarship award. The winner must travel to Southern Seaplane in Belle Chasse for the training and check ride.

Course Includes: Ground school and training conducted in a Cessna 172 seaplane, use of aircraft for check ride and DPE fees. 

Applicant must be current, paid member of the Seaplane Pilots Association to be considered for the scholarship.

Filing Application: Complete and file the application (see link below) no later than September 20, 2019.

Award will be presented in person at Southern Seaplane in Belle Chasse on October 5 at the Annual Seaplane Pilots Association Member Meeting between 1:00 and 2:30 p.m. local time.
