Dining Locations Going Cashless

As of Monday, August 24, 2026, dining centers and campus cafes locations will no longer accept cash as a form of payment. This change aims to improve the overall customer experience by reducing security risks and streamlining operations within these locations.

The Student Center 1st floor retail locations including Starbucks, Mi Pi, Fuego Verde, ReFresh Market and HÔU JIA will continue to accept cash, along with other payment forms.

The decision to transition dining centers and campus cafes to cashless operations was made for a few different reasons.

  • Over the past two years, cash has accounted for 10% or less of sales revenue from all dining locations.
  • By eliminating cash from these operations, Dining will be able to increase safety for employees and reduce business risks.
  • Cash handling protocols can be time intensive for managers and administrative assistants.

Cash will still be accepted at food retail locations on the 1st floor of the Student Center, specifically at Mi Pi, Fuego Verde, ReFresh Market, Starbucks and HÔU JIA.

As of August 2026, WMU does not have any cash-to-card kiosks.
