Canceling a Contract

Residence Halls Apartments

Students wishing to cancel their housing contracts must submit a cancellation request. To do so, log into the housing portal then click on the "Contract/Lease Cancellation Request" link. Your request will be reviewed, and you will receive an email reply regarding your contract status. A cancellation fee may apply depending on when you cancel your contract and whether or not you are still attending Western Michigan University.

Enrolled and not enrolled status refers to a student's status during the terms of the contract.

Residence hall penalties apply even if the contract is signed after June 1. Apartment penalties apply even if the contract is signed after the initial due date.

After residence halls open

Withdrawing or non-enrolled student  
Assessed normal room and board costs from the official hall opening date through the effective cancellation or check out date.
Enrolled student  
Assessed the full amount of the contract term for the academic year.

Failure to check in

Non-enrolled student  
Assessed a $400 cancellation fee and the reservation payment is forfeited.
Enrolled student  
Assessed the full amount of the contract term for the academic year.

Returning residents

Residents who participated in the fall sign-up procedure during the previous spring will have to pay a cancellation fee if they opt not to return to the residence halls after submitting a signed contract. See above for details.

10.5 Month Contract
