David joined WMU in 1998 as a Program Coordinator in the Recurrent and Continuing Education department. He moved to the Assistant Chief Flight Instructor position for the Colleges 141 program in early 1999. David now serves as the Associate Director of Flight Safety and Standards and is also an Assistant Chief. Prior to WMU David was a First Officer for Untied Express/Great Lakes Airlines in the Beechcraft 1900 and worked as a First Officer for Drummond Island Air flying the de Havilland Twin Otter and Piper Navajo. David holds ATP MEL, COM SEL/SES and UAS certificates along with CFII, MEI, AGI and Gold Seal Instructor. During his time at WMU David was awarded Master CFI status from NAFI for 2001-03 and 2003-05. He was awarded FAA Michigan CFI of the year in 2014 and Grand Rapids FSDO CFI of the year in 2015. He was responsible for the development of the upset and recovery program at the college in the Extra 300L and enjoyed teaching in the amphibious Piper Cub. David graduated from Northwestern Michigan College professional pilot program in 1987.
